Detailed Itinerary
 
DAY 1 - Friday USA - USA - Warsaw
Optional:Depart on a regular scheduled flight from USA to Warsaw.
 
DAY 2 - Saturdayb> Warsaw
After arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city. The afternoon is free. At 6:00pm in the evening, meet up with your guide/group and drive along the beautifully renovated Royal Route with its historical monuments and residences. Stop at Castle Square for a short walk through the Old Town. A welcome dinner at a local restaurant includes authentic Polish dishes and famous vodka, "Zubrowka."

DAY 3 - Sunday Warsaw
This morning, a half-day sightseeing tour of Warsaw includes the Old Town and its impressive 300-room Royal Castle. Lunch will be at a local restaurant in the Old Town after which the tour will continue to the area of the former Warsaw Ghetto. En route you will see the National Opera House and Town Hall. You will stop at a famous Warsaw café, to taste a typical pastry called ?paczek?. This evening you will enjoy an unforgettable Chopin piano recital with a glass of sparkling wine.

DAY 4 - Monday WARSAW ? CZESTOCHOWA - ZAKOPANE
Leave Warsaw for Zakopane, a small mountain village situated in the valley between Gubalowka and Giewont in the Tatra Mountains. En route, you will stop in Czestochowa to visit the Jasna Gora Monastery and the Black Madonna Shrine. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Arrive in Zakopane in the evening.

DAY 5 - Tuesday  ZAKOPANE
Your sightseeing tour of Zakopane includes a visit to the Jaszczurowka Chapel, built by the townspeople to thank the Lady of Fatima for saving Pope John Paul II after an attempt on his life. Admire breathtaking views of the Tatras peaks from the top of Gubalowka, and shop for Highlanders (Gorale) souvenirs. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Tonight, enjoy dinner and a folklore show at a typical Highlanders? Inn.

DAY 6 - Wednesday ZAKOPANE - KRAKOW
Take a spectacular morning rafting trip on the Dunajec River in Pieniny National Park. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, prepare to leave for the medieval city of Krakow.

DAY 7- Thursday KRAKOW
The morning's sightseeing tour will feature the royal castle Wawel, home to three dynasties of Poland's monarchs. Its stately halls and exquisite chambers are filled with priceless art, valuable period furniture, rare ancient artifacts, and monumental tapestries. You will also visit Wawel Cathedral, famous for its giant bell and 18 chapels. Following a short break for coffee and cake at the renowned Krakow café, Jama Michalika, you will head to the Old Town, where you will see the magnificent wooden altar by Wit Stwosz at St. Mary's Basilica, and Cloth Hall, a central feature in the main market square. The afternoon is at leisure. Tonight's dinner will be served at a local restaurant in the Old Town.

DAY 8 - Friday KRAKOW - AUSCHWITZ - WADOWICE - KRAKOW
After breakfast, depart for Auschwitz, site of the former Nazi concentration camp. Then head to Wadowice, the birthplace of Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II). Following lunch at a local restaurant, visit the house where John Paul II was born and grew up, and the basilica in which he was baptized. You will see the plaque there that commemorates his baptism, as well as a stone font where he prayed during his first papal pilgrimage to Poland in 1979. Return to Krakow in the late afternoon. The evening is on your own.

DAY 9 - Saturday KRAKOW - WIELICZKA - LOWICZ - WARSAW
This morning, drive to Wieliczka to see the underground world of the oldest salt mine in Europe. Admire chambers and monuments carved completely in salt by generations of Polish miners, including the fabulous St. Kinga Chapel with its beautiful chandeliers. Lunch on your own, and then depart for Lowicz, a typical Mazovian town famous for folk art. You will be invited for a home-hosted dinner by a local family whose charming cottage is located at the foot of the former Lowicz Castle. They will greet you with bread and salt, a typical Polish custom. After dinner, continue your drive to Warsaw.

Following breakfast this morning, transfer to the airport for the return flight home.
